Spade bits are very effective tools for drilling large holes in wood. They drill very quickly but should not be used on visible, finished products like cabinets or trim. Spade Bits will create a clean hole on the start but they have a tendency to blow out the backside of the piece of wood that you are drilling through. The best use case for spade bits would be drilling through studs, footers or headers. They will easily drill through all types of wood but are not effective for use with metal. These bits can be used in all types of drills and impact drivers as long as they are not set to hammer drill mode. Always be sure that you know what is behind the material that you are drilling through.
